EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Program
Trauma Recovery Network

Our Mission

To develop and maintain a network of licensed clinicians who provide early EMDR interventions as part of the frontline trauma response and recovery in the Greater St. Louis Area.

The broad goals of emergency response of our chapter are

“preparedness, mitigation, rescue and recovery.” We seek these   goals by pursuing six key functions for the benefit of our community:

  • Professional development
  • Public education
  • Networking with local emergency response system
  • Networking with other chapters in the National TRN
  • Responding to emergencies in our community
  • Responding to emergencies at the request of other chapters

What is a Trauma Recovery Network (TRN)?

A TRN is a local network of HAP volunteers and staff that is linked to a national network. Each TRN consists of several local EMDR clinicians, at least one EMDRIA-approved consultant, and a TRN coordinator (or a pair of co-coordinators). A TRN is created and prepared before disasters occur. Working from shared information and a common vision, each local unit sets its own priorities.

EMDR Network of Greater St. Louis Trauma Recovery Network (TRN) is a team of volunteers: EMDR trained and certified psychotherapists who collaborate with nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals who are trained to respond in the event of a community crisis such as fire, natural disaster, or a violent event.

Requirements to Becoming a TRN Volunteer

at an agency, you will need an agency agreement authorizing

treatment at your agency and coverage of malpractice insurance.

  • Completion of EMDR Therapy Basic Training (Part 1 and 2 plus 10

hours of consultation) by an EMDR approved program. A Certificate

of Completion. We recommend that you be EMDR therapy certified,

working toward certification, or practicing EMDR therapy for a

   minimum of 5 years.

  • If you received training prior to 2007, you must verify that you

recently obtained or are willing to obtain additional training to

What Do Volunteers Do?

  • Provide up to 6 pro bono sessions (per calendar year) of EMDR

treatment to individuals affected by community disaster (in a

therapist’s office), utilizing EMDR-based early interventions, as

well as standard interventions endorsed by specialists in emergency    care.

  • Provide referrals to other appropriate services (if needed) and be

prepared to provide treatment within days or up to 3 months after a    disaster or community emergency occurs.

  • Collaborate and provide trauma recovery with first responders.

  • Educate community organizations about the psychological impact       of trauma and the effectiveness of EMDR in disaster relief.

  • Be active in “non-emergent” times preparing for potential

emergencies. The work of volunteers may include but is not limited    to: preparing and disseminating a Greater St. Louis Area TRN flyer;      conducting workshops for local EMDR clinicians (i.e., R-TEP or

working with children who are witnesses to homicide); securing

donations for Earth, Air, Water and Fire wristbands used for

grounding; providing community mental health education to help

those in need; or working with local agencies to conduct a needs
